What is the hardness of Cemented Carbide?

The hardness of cemented carbide refers to the ability of the alloy material to resist depression and deformation caused by pressing into it by other hard objects. The hardness of ordinary carbide is 86-93 HRA(equivalent to 69-81 HRC),and because of its high hardness(much higher than ordinary metals),it is difficult to make appliances with complex shapes.Factors that affect the hardness of carbide include chemical composition, raw material ratios, production processes and process parameters.

Depending on the chemical composition, commonly used cemented carbide can be divided into tungsten-cobalt(YG class)cemented carbide,tungsten-titanium-cobalt(YT class)cemented carbide and tungsten-titanium-tantalum-cobalt(YW class)cemented carbide, etc. They have the following hardnesses:

YG3X carbide has a hardness of not less than 92HRA and is suitable for high speed finishing of small cutting sections of cast iron,non-ferrous metals and alloy hardened steel alloy steel.

YG6 carbide has a hardness of not less than 89HRA and is suitable for semi-finishing machining at medium cutting speeds with cast iron,non-ferrous metals and alloyed non-metallic materials.

YG6A carbide has a hardness of not less than 91.5 HRA and is suitable for semi-finishing machining of hard cast iron,non-ferrous metals and their alloys,as well as semi-finishing and finishing machining of high manganese steels, hardened steels and alloy steels.

YG6X Cemented Carbide has a hardness of not less than 91 HRA and is suitable for the finishing of ordinary cast iron.

YG6X-1 carbide has a hardness of not less than 90HRA and is suitable for the finishing of cast iron,non-ferrous metals and their alloys and non-metallic materials in continuous cutting,semi-finishing and rough turning of threads in intermittent cutting,semi-finishing and finishing milling of continuous sections, rough and finishing reaming of holes.

YG8N carbide has a hardness of not less than 90 HRA and is suitable for high-speed cutting of cast iron, white cast iron, ductile iron and alloy materials such as chromium and nickel stainless steel.

YG8 carbide has a hardness of not less than 89.5 HRA and is suitable for rough turning, rough planing and rough milling of uneven sections and interrupted cutting, drilling and reaming of general and deep holes in cast iron,non-ferrous metals and their alloys and non-metallic materials.
